Lifting of the lockdown in France

Following the announcements of Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, France will come out of lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic through 4 major phases of progressive opening of the country, from 3 May to 30 June, subject to the health situation in each department.

Note: The measures listed below only apply if the situation does not worsen. Reopenings are linked to the implementation and compliance with hygiene concepts. Capacity limits depend on the type of event and the regional / local corona incidence.

Phase 1: 3 May 2021

  • End of travel restrictions and certificates within France
  • European tourists with a negative PCR test can travel to France

Phase 2: 19 May 2021

  • Extension of the curfew to 9pm
  • Shops & Businesses can reopen**
  • Reopening of cafes and restaurants, outdoor only, with a maximum of 6 people per table
  • Museums, Monuments, theaters, auditorium with seated audience can reopen with 800 maximum capacity indoor and 1000 outdoor
  • Reopening of outdoor sports facilities, including those for spectators with 800 maximum capacity indoor and 1000 outdoor
  • Resumption of sport activities indoor and outdoor with adapted health protocol
  • Gathering of more than 10 people prohibited
  • Reopening of the parks and botanical gardens
  • Tourist residences, holiday villages, campsites and hotels will be able to restore their own customers indoors
  • Reopening of ski lifts and small tourist road trains with limited capacity

Venues reopening are conditioned to implementation and respect of sanitary protocol

Phase 3: 9 June 2021

  • Extension of the curfew to 11pm
  • Reopening of indoor cafes and restaurants with maximum 6 people per table
  • Possibility to welcome up to 5000 people in cultural and sports facilities (subject to health pass)
  • Reopening of fairs and exhibitions up to 5000 people with health pass (subject to health pass)
  • Reception of extra-Europeans tourists (subject to health pass)
  • Reopening of SPA and thalassotherapy with limited capacity and adapted sanitary protocol

Phase 4: 30 June 2021

  • End of the curfew
  • End of capacity limit for establishments welcoming the general public - social distancing and other protective measures remain in place
  • Access to any public event with more than 1000 people indoor and outdoor (subject to health pass)
  • The cruise sector in France will resume its activity in all ports
  • Night clubs remain closed

These national measures may have "emergency brakes" applied in regions where the virus is circulating too widely.
