News on the French ski area for the winter season 2020/2021

French ski resorts announce many news on the slopes and offer a joyful winter season 2020-2021. At the same time, all efforts are focused on a safe season and peace of mind on the slopes for the skiers. Covid-19: stations apply barrier gestures and follow government directives.

New installations & ski lifts

Some ski areas are investing in the remodeling and redevelopment of certain areas, in order to offer modern spaces adapted to the times, its uses and its challenges. In Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc, a major plan to modernize the ski area has been initiated with the development of a whole new sliding area dedicated to beginners and the opening of two new ski lifts. Note also the investments to secure ski areas in order to speed up the opening in the morning in the event of heavy snowfall by initiating preventive avalanches.

As for the new ski lifts, there will be new 6-seater chairlifts in Méribel (le Bouquetin) and Valmorel (La Biolène), the Gaston Express, a new chairlift at Corbier and a new chairlift at Ste Foy Tarentaise (replacing the one at Arpettaz).

New slopes & activities

Birth of two slopes for good skiers in La Rosière: a black slope with a 74% grade and an ungroomed freeride area with a vertical drop of 400m. Opening of a new natural ice rink in Val Thorens: visitors will discover 400 m² of free space on skates. And a new ice cave in Vars in Southeren French Alps.

This winter, three new zip lines were installed on the peaks: in Serre Chevalier (up to 110km / h!), in Valmorel (1400m in length) and in Villard de Lans (with bends, accessible to families). An activity from Finland is offered for the first time in France, in Val Cenis this winter: Ice Floating. Imagine lying in a frozen lake for an extraordinary moment of relaxation… Facing the mountains, in crystal clear water around 5 ° C, you can relax in a dry suit. Another unusual activity: Snow Volley comes to Valberg.

Ski touring continues to climb. This year again, many courses to practice ski touring in all security are proposed, with new slopes in Les Orres (700m vertical drop with loopholes that allow access with beautiful views), at Orcières Merlette 1850 (two routes 4.6 km and 3.4 km), and in Avoriaz (since the village of Lindarets sometimes in the forest, the along a stream or in the hollow of a valley immaculate for a full immersion nature).

The national Famille Plus label has been awarded to 44 mountain resorts, and more than 2,500 service providers are involved in the process. The repository is based on criteria guaranteeing successful holidays, with products and services suitable for children.
